ARF has a continuous stream of animals coming into our facility and are always in need of foster families. When a family offers to foster one of our pets, it creates an opening for the next animal in need. Our foster parents are a vital piece of the rescue process and we are deeply indebted to them for their willingness to welcome new members into their lives.
Foster Guidelines & Application
As a foster family, you are required to provide care and affection for your foster animal, including socialization and healthy practices. We ask that foster dogs are kept on a leash while on outings as you learn their strengths and social skills.
ARF covers veterinary expenses, including monthly heartworm preventative (given at the first adoption of every month), but not flea/tick control.
ARF can also assist with food for your foster pet if necessary.
You are required to contact ARF for any and all medical issues that may arise while the pet is in your care. Do not take your foster to your vet. ARF has contracts with many local vets who offer us special rates and fees for their services. In case of emergency, please contact our Foster Coordinator immediately for instruction. For all non-emergency's, please email medical@animalrescuemobile.org and someone will contact you within 24 hours.
As a foster parent, we ask that you evaluate your foster's behavior, temperament and energy level. We require that you provide the necessary time, attention and exercise for your foster pet, spending a little extra time each day teaching your foster pet the socialization skills needed for his forever home. Transport the foster animal to vet appointments as scheduled and provide updates on their progress. Let us know if there are any problems so that we can work with the animal before he goes to a permanent home.
Foster parents are required to bring their animal to at least one adoption event per month. You must also stay at the adoption to answer any questions potential adoptive families may have. You will be contacted via email of upcoming adoptions and you will need to let the adoption coordinator know if you will be attending that adoption.
As a foster
parent, your are not permitted to place your foster pet for adoption without
approval from ARF. Any interested parties must submit an Adoption
Application thru our website and same must be approved by the Foster
Coordinator before an adoption can take place. You may not 'give' your
foster to your mother, brother, best friend or neighbor. All
applications must be approved, adoption fees collected and medical records
turned over. Your foster pet will be listed on our website and
Petfinder as available for adoption. When a match has been identified, a
completed application, phone and home visit notes will be readily available
to you. All you have to do is review the information, set up an
introduction and showcase your foster to their possible future family!
NOTE: All pets in your home must be spay and/or neutered.
Before you bring a foster animal into your home, please be sure your own
pets are up to date on their vaccinations – this is not only for the health
of the foster animal, but for your own pet(s) as well.
ARF can provide a food, crate, collar, leash and any necessary medical care for the duration of their stay in a foster home. While ARF cannot be held responsible for any damage to personal property that a foster could possibly cause, we will cover all illness-related medical expenses caused by a foster or results yielded by the unlikely event of a foster becoming hostile.
