ARF provides foster support to the City of Mobile Animal Services. We help match people with foster pets at the shelter as well as provide needed supplies. We also accept applications for our Forever Foster program placing senior, medical needs and other special cases from the city shelter into permanent foster homes. Questions? Email [email protected]
Types of fostering:
Traditional fostering - open your home to a dog or cat until they're adopted!
Bottle feeding kittens and puppies - The shelter often gets tiny animals that need bottle feeding or supplemental feeding - maybe they've been found without a mom or mom is unable to nurse! These special fosters give our tiniest shelter pets a chance! ARF provides supplies and training!
Dog heartworm treatment - Heartworms are a huge problem for stray dogs in our area. Over 25% of adult dogs we rescue have heartworms! Some dogs need immediate heartworm treatment that includes strict kennel rest for 6-8 weeks. A heartworm foster should have a spare room for a kennel so their foster can stay calm and rest. Heartworm treatment dogs need short leash walks to potty only.
Senior pets - senior animals need loving homes to help with their age related needs. This can include medications, more frequent vet appointments and lots of love!
Weekend or short term fostering - can you open your home for a weekend while another foster is out of town? Or foster for a short period while we find a long term foster?
